Lions Club International celebrates 100 Years

2017 marks the 100th year Anniversary of Lions Club International. 100 years ago Melvin Jones challenged his business men’s club to change their business focus to a club that helps make their community better.   They said yes and the first Lions Club was born. An invitation went out to other business clubs and a convention was held to formalize the group.  Today there are more than 45,000 Lions Clubs around the world serving their communities. “We Serve” is our motto.  We serve in many areas including sight, health, youth, elderly, environmental and disaster relief. There are 6  Lions Clubs serving the  Copper Country:  Chassell Lions, Houghton Lions, South Range Lions, Calumet Lions, Lake Linden-Hubble Lions and the Keweenaw Lions.
